To counter the cost and availability of Birch plywood in India, many designers have shifted to utilize its aesthetics by replacing it with matching laminates.

Birch Ply is made of layers of birch wood veneers bonded together under heat and pressure. Since Birch is a hardwood it has great structural strength.
Birch plywood being made in cross banded layers (right angle) the edge of the ply sheet is usually in alternating light and dark layers, allowing the designer to avoid using edge banding, exposing its aesthetic appeal.
Being an imported material to the region of the Indian sub-continent, it’s availability is subjective and prices unregulated due to its grade and tax impositions.
The grains of Birch Ply is very similar to that of the Maple tree. Being light coloured, and imagine just polishing it and exposing its grains at its best natural beauty, it also goes well with solid, bold and pastel shades
Because of all the above reasons, birch ply used for cabinets, table tops, beds etc, can be considered as an end product in itself, by just polishing it.
To counter its cost and availability in India, top designers have shifted to utilize its aesthetics by replacing it with matching laminates from New Mika, Greenlam, Merino, Century etc.
